I spent a whole day lake-hopping around Lake Atitlan on a boat. The lake has eleven villages scattered around, but the five most popular to visit are Panajachel, San Pedro, San Marcos, Santa Cruz, and Jaibalito. On my day trip here from nearby Antigua, I was able to fit in three of those. They did not disappoint! Some highlights were:
- hearing Mayan spoken for the first time – which was soooooo cool! I felt so silly for not knowing it was still spoken
- shopping for a lovely handmade scarf in the most unique hue of pink and meeting the woman who wove it
- exploring a town with the largest banners of Bible verses, Jesus’ face, and praying hands I ever did see
- eating the literally definition of farm to fork
I bought this tour from Viator and was not disappointed. We left early, spent all day hopping lake towns on a boat, and got home in time for dinner. But I already am plotting my return for a DIY and longer stay in the lovely Lake Atitlan!! So without further ado, here is my Lake Atitlan photo journal.
